Tuning an Inline Pass/Fail Station to the Customer's Own Parts

A GrindoSonic engineer went on-site to adapt an inline GO/NOGO station to a transport supplier's specific parts — objective production QC in under three seconds, dialled in to their geometry.

The Challenge

A manufacturer of high-reliability components for safety-critical transport applications cannot let a defective part reach its customer. At production volume, checking a statistical sample is not enough: the assurance has to cover every part, and it has to keep pace with the line rather than slow it down. Manual judgement varies from operator to operator, and the parts themselves vary in geometry and mass in ways that confound a generic acoustic check.

The Approach

GrindoSonic supplied a semi-automatic GO/NOGO station built around the MK7, screening each part on its resonant-frequency signature against a known-good reference and returning a pass/fail decision in under three seconds. The decisive part was not the box but the setup: a GrindoSonic engineer worked on-site to adapt the support fixturing, the impact point and the acceptance thresholds to the customer’s specific part geometry. The measurement was tuned to their parts, not dropped in as a generic configuration.

The Results

The customer gained an objective, repeatable inline check that screens every part at production speed and records a value for each one, replacing operator-dependent judgement. Just as importantly, the engagement showed what GrindoSonic delivers beyond an instrument: hands-on application engineering that makes the measurement work on the customer’s own floor, on the customer’s own parts.
