Abstract
The first part of this study aims to demonstrate the possibility and validity of measuring the elastic modulus of a grinding wheel by dynamic method. An apparatus was built for this purpose and a graphical calculation procedure was developed that takes into account the dimensions of the wheel.
In the second part, proof is given that the elastic modulus can be considered a valid measure of grinding wheel hardness, equivalent to its definition by the Norton scale or by its tear-out resistance.
Key Findings
- Dynamic measurement of E-modulus is valid and practical
- E-modulus correlates with traditional hardness measures
- Graphical calculation methods account for wheel geometry
